Now this is what Egyptians used back then. They did not use the letters that we use today. Instead they used pictures. For example: when they want to put the letter "m" they put a picture of an owl. When they want to put the letter "l" they would make a picture of a lion, obviously since the word lion starts with a "l". But what you have to remember is that Egyptians only spell words by thier sounds. So if you were going to spell the word "you" they would either take out the "u" the "y" or both so that it would would look like what it sounds like. |

Q: What role did the hieroglyphics play in the developement of language and communication in Egypt? A: The role that the hieroglyphics played a very important . It helped the Egyptians communicate well when building the pyramids. If the communication was bad and say one part of Egypt was talking in spanish, another in french, and another in hieroglyphics, then the pyramids would have never been finished in time and then all the pharaohs would have been buried in the ground. If that happened then of course the grave robbers would have stolen not just the belonging, but maybe the gold in the sarcophagus. Thats why the hieroglyphic language was very important. |
